Virginia Native Plants

I took a class at the Norfolk Botanical Garden on yesterday and it gave insight to the damage non-native and invasive plants are doing to the area. They displace native plant species, reduce wildlife habitat and alter ecosystem processes. When at all possible make sure you plant flowers, trees, shrubs and herbs that are native to your area. The picture shows some plants/herbs that are native to Virginia: Stokes Aster (Stokesia laevis), Trumpet Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens), White Prairie Rose (Rosa foliolosa), Red Clover (Trifolium pratense), Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea), Common Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentialis), Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia) and Milkweed (Asclepias sp.)
